Richard Byrne

The website Free Technology for Teachers by Richard Byrne is full of great tools for teachers. Two that I explored were 47 alternatives to Using YouTube in the Classroom and 77 Web Resources for Teachers to Try this Summer. The YouTube alternatives were specifically for teachers who are unable to access YouTube at school. The quality of the videos was awesome! The web resources list was full of websites to explore during the summer when teachers have more time. I’ve already downloaded the list and have highlighted several to explore more fully. I’ve very excited to have more time the next few months to explore his website more and to bring new and interesting things into my classroom.

Final Thoughts on Twitter

I’ve learned that Twitter is a fantastic way to share information and exchange ideas with other educators.  Once I became more comfortable with hashtags and how to talk to others I couldn’t wait to spend time exploring.  A few minutes a day gives me new ideas, websites and links to use in my classroom.

One person that I’ve been following is Terie Engelbrecht (@mrsebiology).  She’s a fellow science teacher who shares all kinds of helpful information through her blog and also includes links to other sites.  One recent tweet was a link to a research study on whether screencasts help students learn.

I think that I will continue to use Twitter professionally after this assignment.  I prefer to use Facebook for personal communication as it allows longer conversations but Twitter is perfect for sharing information and ideas quickly.  I will also use it to communicate with students and parents.

Voice thread

Voice thread is such a great way to share ideas and information.  Every students has the ability to share their opinions and be heard.
